Frequently asked questions
The questions travellers ask us most, grouped by stage of the journey. If your question is not here, write to us — we answer every message personally.
Before you book
How do I start planning a trip with ChinaMira?
Send an enquiry through any of our service pages, or email info@chinamira.com. Tell us your dates, who is travelling and what interests you — a specialist replies within one working day, usually with questions and a first route idea.
Do I have to book a full package?
No. Some travellers book a complete journey with guides, hotels and transport; others ask us for a guide-and-car service for a few days, or only a visa invitation letter. We quote the parts you need.
How far ahead should I plan?
Three to six months is comfortable for peak seasons (April–May, September–October) and for popular hotels. Two months is often workable in quieter periods, and we also handle short-notice requests when availability allows.
Can you work with a group of different ages?
Yes. We regularly plan journeys for families with children, multi-generation groups and friends travelling together. We adjust pace, driving times and activities for the youngest and oldest travellers in the group.
Visas & documents
Do I need a visa to visit China?
It depends on your nationality. Many travellers now qualify for visa-free entry or visa-free transit, while others need a tourist (L) visa. Send us your nationality and travel dates and we will confirm what applies to you before you pay anything.
Do you provide invitation letters?
Yes. We issue invitation letters for tourist, business and study travel, together with the supporting documents your local Chinese embassy or visa centre asks for. See our visa invitation page for the process.
What documents do you need from me?
For an invitation letter: your passport name exactly as printed, nationality, passport number, travel dates and purpose of visit. For a full journey we also need passport validity dates and any medical or dietary notes relevant to planning.
Which regions need extra permits?
Tibet requires an organised tour and a Tibet Travel Permit, arranged through a licensed operator; some areas of Xinjiang and border regions also need permits. We handle the paperwork when your itinerary includes those regions.
Payments & pricing
How are payments handled?
Journeys are quoted in USD per person. A deposit confirms your dates, and the balance is due 30 days before travel. We accept bank transfer and PayPal, with WeChat Pay and Alipay for travellers who can use them, and every payment is confirmed in writing.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation terms depend on the hotels and services booked; they are stated in your proposal before you pay a deposit. We always try to rebook or reschedule instead of cancelling when plans change.
Are flights included?
International flights are not included unless you ask us to arrange them. Domestic flights, high-speed rail tickets and transfers within China are included when your itinerary lists them.
How do you price a custom journey?
We build the cost from accommodation standard, guiding, private transport, tickets and internal transport, then add a service fee. Your proposal shows the breakdown line by line, so you can adjust the parts that matter to you.
On the trip
Will my guide speak my language?
English-speaking guides are standard. Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Korean guides can be arranged with advance notice — tell us your language in the enquiry.
What support do I have while travelling?
You receive a contact card and a 24/7 emergency number before departure. Your advisor stays reachable throughout the journey for changes, and the local guide can usually rework a day on the spot.
Can I use my usual payment apps in China?
Mobile payment dominates in China. International cards are accepted at many hotels and larger restaurants; for daily spending most travellers link an international card to Alipay or WeChat Pay before arrival. We send a setup guide with your itinerary.
What about internet, SIM cards and VPNs?
We advise on eSIM options and connectivity at the planning stage. If you need access to services that require a VPN, set it up before you arrive — we will flag this in your pre-departure notes.
Still unsure about something?
